Description
Aronia Hugin, also known as Black Chokeberry, is an underrated and highly rewarding fruiting shrub that is well suited to the UK climate. It grows reliably in most garden conditions and produces a generous crop of dark, flavourful berries, making it an excellent choice for gardeners looking for low-hassle fruit plants with added wildlife value. The berries are ideal for preserves, juices and unusual fruit pies.
This compact variety is also valued for its outstanding autumn foliage, with leaves turning vivid shades of red and fiery orange as the season changes. It brings strong colour and interest to autumn and winter garden displays, working beautifully in borders or mixed shrub planting.
In late spring to early summer, Aronia Hugin produces clusters of small, white scented flowers, which are attractive to pollinators. These are followed by round black berries in autumn, providing both ornamental appeal and edible harvests. Supplied in a 9cm pot, plants arrive at approximately 15–25cm in height, ready to establish quickly once planted.
