Description
Brodiaea Californica ‘Babylon’ is an elegant, spring flowering perennial prized for its eye catching, trumpet shaped violet purple blooms which are similar to alliums and agapanthus. Flowering from Spring to Summer, each slender stem carries multiple starry florets that create a graceful, airy display. Loved by pollinators, these striking plants bring a light and graceful touch to beds, borders, and naturalistic planting schemes.
Plant in Autumn in well drained, fertile soil in a sunny, sheltered position. Space bulbs approximately 8-10cm apart and plant them 6-8cm deep. Water well after planting. A layer of mulch or compost can help insulate the soil and boost growth. Once established, these low maintenance perennials will bloom reliably every Summer and gradually multiply over time. Deadhead any spent blooms to tidy up and encourage continued flowering.
Brodiaea are ideal for sunny borders, gravel gardens, and wildflower style planting. They are well suited to growing in containers where their fine stems and delicate flowers can be admired up close. For maximum impact, plant in groups or drifts. Brodiaea also make excellent cut flowers, perfect for cottage or coastal gardens.
