Acer campestre, the Field Maple, is a medium-sized deciduous tree, its form a compact, bushy crown that speaks of the British countryside. The leaves, a signature feature, are five-lobed and, come autumn, they blush with warm yellows and reds, bringing a splash of seasonal colour to gardens, hedgerows, and wider landscapes. In spring, the tree offers up small green flowers, which give way to the familiar winged maple fruits.

Field Maple, once it's growing well, doesn't need much extra care and can handle nearly any type of soil. It's sold as a bare root tree, so you can plant it right away when it's dormant. During its early years, giving it a drink during dry spells will help it get established. Also, putting a thick layer of well-rotted mulch around the base will help the roots grow strong
